I decided I was going to be an artist who wrote my own songs, and turned down the publishing deal. That meant that the first few years here were really tough financially. I didn’t know if I was going to have gas to get home sometimes or could put gas in the car.
I was doing commentary for the BBC and had exhibition work but if you’re not winning you are not earning as much. And when you’re seen as a successful sportsman, people assume you’re earning a good living. There was pressure on me to have the newest car, a more expensive holiday. It was all about keeping up appearances.
Before now, I’ve always taken my mixes out to the car and listened to them in the parking lot. I still do that, but more so now I’m listening to it on the Beat box, and I think people should give it at least a listen and check it out and see what it is.

Because you’re fat, you feel that everybody’s watching every bite you take. So, you closet-eat, and you think because nobody sees you eating, then you’re not eating.
