Science is basically an inoculation against charlatans.
For whatever reason, I didn’t succumb to the stereotype that science wasn’t for girls. I got encouragement from my parents. I never ran into a teacher or a counselor who told me that science was for boys. A lot of my friends did.
I don’t join the New Atheists. So, for example, I wouldn’t have the arrogance to lecture some mother who hopes to see her dying child in Heaven – that’s none of my business, ultimately. I won’t lecture her on the philosophy of science.
Software Engineering might be science; but that’s not what I do. I’m a hacker, not an engineer.

In the spirit of science, there really is no such thing as a ‘failed experiment.’ Any test that yields valid data is a valid test.
Poets say science takes away from the beauty of the stars – mere globs of gas atoms. I, too, can see the stars on a desert night, and feel them. But do I see less or more?
Science is telling us that we can do phenomenal things if we put our minds and our resources to it.
My initial thoughts of becoming a lawyer changed in high school as I became more attracted to math and science and began talking about being an engineer.
Science cannot solve the ultimate mystery of nature. And that is because, in the last analysis, we ourselves are a part of the mystery that we are trying to solve.
Religion asks you to believe things without questioning, and technology and science always encourage you to ask hard questions and why it is important in science and technology. So I was always interested in science and technology.
Is there anything science should not try to explain? Science is knowledge and knowledge is power – power to do good or evil. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.
Climate change is real. Climate change is being substantially increased by humans and the carbon we put into the atmosphere. And it appears to be speeding up. If science has made any mistakes, science has been underestimating it.
The commonality between science and art is in trying to see profoundly – to develop strategies of seeing and showing.
Science fiction encourages us to explore… all the futures, good and bad, that the human mind can envision.
Science fiction is what we point to when we say it.
