I am so honored to join the company of a roster as celebrated and diverse as Covergirl’s. I can’t wait to share some of my own beauty tips with fans and work alongside Covergirl to continue empowering girls and women to celebrate their individuality.
I think it’s huge that I’m wearing my natural hair texture on ABC in prime time. As Dr. Rainbow Johnson on ‘Black-ish,’ I think my hair is part of the reality of this woman’s life. She has four children and is an anesthesiologist and a wife. She doesn’t have a lot of time to fuss with beauty, so her look is pretty simple.
I’ll say, ‘I really like Daenerys,’ and then I go, ‘Wait, but I like the Stark theme, too, and I like the Lannister theme.’ I keep jumping around. But I think that’s kind of the beauty of ‘Game of Thrones,’ that there’s so many different ones, and they’re all kind of different, and they do different things.
If you talk to some of the older players, they definitely say they see beauty in certain games. In my case, there are certain times when I think, ‘Wow, that’s so amazing, chess is so full of ideas.’ But most of the time I tend to be much more pragmatic about it, as opposed to thinking about it as art or something exquisite.
In a world where it is so easy to neglect, deny, corrupt and suppress the truth, the scientist may find his discipline severe. For him, truth is so seldom the sudden light that shows new order and beauty; more often, truth is the uncharted rock that sinks his ship in the dark.
The trick of this thing and the beauty of this thing is that it’s a cowboy movie first and then stuff happens. Even after stuff happens it doesn’t change – it hasn’t suddenly changed into another kind of movie. It’s still a cowboy movie. And that’s what’s incredible about it because nobody has done that before, that’s new territory.
Cultivate the habit of zest. Purposefully seek out the beauty in the seemingly trivial. Especially in the trivial. The colors and shapes of the foods you eat. The shadows a vase makes on your table. The interesting faces of the people on the bus with you.
Time and time again, the players constantly surprise you and often not do at all what you expect and completely muck up your preparation, and that’s kind of the beauty of the game. It wouldn’t be as fun to the DM if everything worked out exactly how you thought it would.
The distinction between a gallery and a museum is enormous. The gallery is about looking at a thing of beauty; the purpose of the activity is an aesthetic response. The museum is actually about the object that lets you get into somebody else’s life.
I’ve never had any illusions about being a lead actor in films, because lead actors have to be of a certain kind. Apart from the beauty of looks and figure, which I cannot claim to have, there’s just a particular kind of ordinary-Joe quality that a film star needs to have.
My biggest beauty tip would be exfoliation, exfoliation, exfoliation! After a lifetime of almost no breakouts, I started having some pretty embarrassing ones and learned that if you don’t exfoliate, your skin has a hard time shedding the old skin and therefore clogs your pores and causes zits.
I’ve always felt like an artistic person. I can’t draw or paint or sculpt. I never really had technical skills, but I’ve always felt like I appreciate really beautiful things, and part of taking a good photograph is being able to recognize beauty.
Surely these women won’t lose any more of their beauty and charm by putting a ballot in a ballot box once a year than they are likely to lose standing in foundries or laundries all year round. There is no harder contest than the contest for bread, let me tell you that.

No better way is there to learn to love Nature than to understand Art. It dignifies every flower of the field. And, the boy who sees the thing of beauty which a bird on the wing becomes when transferred to wood or canvas will probably not throw the customary stone.
Just like hair frames our face, brows frame our eyes. I see so much potential in harmonized beauty whenever I see a woman who’s not filling in her brows, and I just want to go in with my brow pencil and just be like, ‘Filling in eyebrows, OK, done – look in the mirror and be inspired.’ That’s one of my pet peeves, but beauty is subjective.
I thought for a very long time that I had to conform or maybe change the way I look, or maybe the hijab was dimming my beauty. I took a moment, and then I realized, you know what, there’s a lot of girls who do wear this, and this is their reality. It just made me even more prouder to wear it.
This is part of the involuntary bargain we make with the world just by being alive. We get to experiences the splendor of nature, the beauty of art, the balm of love and the sheer joy of existence, always with the knowledge that illness, injury, natural disaster, or pure evil can end it in an instant for ourselves or someone we love.
