Wisdom I know is social. She seeks her fellows. But Beauty is jealous, and illy bears the presence of a rival.
To me, ‘beauty’ means to be natural, creative, honest – to say the truth.
Beauty is in the character of a person. It’s about having an interesting face and about what’s inside. Anyone can take a good picture.
You think about the beauty and what you want to transmit. If I think about designing, I can’t design.
Like our attitude to love, truth and goodness, we seem to be confident about knowing what beauty is – certain, even dogmatic – until we think hard about the idea, whereupon all confidence flies away.
The more people explore the world, the more they realize in every country there’s a different aesthetic. Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.
Every one who has a heart, however ignorant of architecture he may be, feels the transcendent beauty and poetry of the mediaeval churches.
When you feel great, you emanate a certain energy that translates as beautiful. I don’t care if you have the standard beauty or not; it’s that X-factor that comes through, and the basis of that is good health.
My theory of characterization is basically this: Put some dirt on a hero, and put some sunshine on the villain, one brush stroke of beauty on the villain.
People say I’m extravagant because I want to be surrounded by beauty. But tell me, who wants to be surrounded by garbage?
Instead, it appears to be a particular mark of beauty that it is considered with tranquil satisfaction; that it pleases if we also do not possess it and we are still far removed from demanding to possess it.
We’ve been ahead for so long in the U.K., we’re so multicultural, and that’s the beauty. That’s why grime was formed, from this mix, this understanding of different people.
You can’t possibly fathom the ins and outs of a prepubescent beauty treatment until you’ve felt the strange but exhilarating tingle of a cottage-cheese-and-Pop-Rocks facial.
The more often we see the things around us – even the beautiful and wonderful things – the more they become invisible to us. That is why we often take for granted the beauty of this world: the flowers, the trees, the birds, the clouds – even those we love. Because we see things so often, we see them less and less.
Beauty is only skin deep. If you go after someone just because she’s beautiful but don’t have anything to talk about, it’s going to get boring fast. You want to look beyond the surface and see if you can have fun or if you have anything in common with this person.
I need to see my own beauty and to continue to be reminded that I am enough, that I am worthy of love without effort, that I am beautiful, that the texture of my hair and that the shape of my curves, the size of my lips, the color of my skin, and the feelings that I have are all worthy and okay.
I believe in Liberty for all men: the space to stretch their arms and their souls, the right to breathe and the right to vote, the freedom to choose their friends, enjoy the sunshine, and ride on the railroads, uncursed by color; thinking, dreaming, working as they will in a kingdom of beauty and love.
Being natural is incredibly empowering for women because it’s just who you are. You’re embracing all the beautiful things about you from your head to your toes. Because when you mask so much of your natural beauty, people don’t get to see that.
Where there is righteousness in the heart, there is beauty in the character. When there is beauty in the character, there is harmony in the home. When there is harmony in the home, there is order in the nation. When there is order in the nation, there is peace in the world.
People often say that ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder,’ and I say that the most liberating thing about beauty is realizing that you are the beholder. This empowers us to find beauty in places where others have not dared to look, including inside ourselves.
He who seeks truth shall find beauty. He who seeks beauty shall find vanity. He who seeks order shall find gratification. He who seeks gratification shall be disappointed. He who considers himself the servant of his fellow beings shall find the joy of self-expression. He who seeks self-expression shall fall into the pit of arrogance.
Enlightened leadership is spiritual if we understand spirituality not as some kind of religious dogma or ideology but as the domain of awareness where we experience values like truth, goodness, beauty, love and compassion, and also intuition, creativity, insight and focused attention.
The significance of the cherry blossom tree in Japanese culture goes back hundreds of years. In their country, the cherry blossom represents the fragility and the beauty of life. It’s a reminder that life is almost overwhelmingly beautiful but that it is also tragically short.
I love fairy tales because of their haunting beauty and magical strangeness. They are set in worlds where anything can happen. Frogs can be kings, a thicket of brambles can hide a castle where a royal court has lain asleep for a hundred years, a boy can outwit a giant, and a girl can break a curse with nothing but her courage and steadfastness.
‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’ was actually inspired by three of my all-time-favorite fairy/folktales: ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ ‘East of the Sun, West of the Moon’ and ‘Tam Lin.’ I got the kernel of inspiration by wondering: ‘What if ’Beauty’ was a huntress?’
