When I was 16, I was watching ‘101 Dalmatians,’ and my mom never let me bleach my hair, so I told her I was going to dye my hair like Cruella De Vil; she didn’t believe me. I came home with my hair like this, and she didn’t talk to me for, like, a week. It was really hilarious.
More fundamentally, it is a dream that does not die with the onset of manhood: the dream is to play endlessly, past the time when you are called home for dinner, past the time of doing chores, past the time when your body betrays you past time itself.

When people ask me, ‘Why Japan?’ I simply tell them it’s the furthest I’ve ever been from home. It really is a different planet.
